About Motor Insurers' Bureau
Motor Insurers' Bureau ( MIB ) was established in 1946 as a private company limited by guarantee for the purpose of entering into Agreements with the Government to compensate the victims of negligent uninsured and untraced motorists.
Every insurer underwriting compulsory motor insurance is obliged, by virtue of the Road Traffic Act 1988, to be a member of Motor Insurers' Bureau and to contribute to its funding.
Mission Statement
Motor Insurers' Bureau's principle obligation is to compensate victims quickly and fairly within the terms of its Agreements and the law.
Scope
Motor Insurers' Bureau provides the service of a Guarantee Fund and Green Card Bureau to all the countries of the United Kingdom and thus operates in nine different legal jurisdictions:

- England and Wales
- Jersey
- Guernsey
- Gibraltar
- Isle of Man
- Northern Ireland
- Sark
- Scotland

MIB Legal Expenses Scheme
This scheme has been specially developed to address the growing problem of funding legal costs when claiming against an uninsured motorist. The scheme becomes effective in respect of claims made on or after 13 November 2003.
All a victim has to do to take advantage of this free service is to complete the Motor Insurers' Bureau Application form which can be downloaded from their website.
