About Legal & General Motor Insurance
What information do I need to obtain a quotation? Legal & General have tried to ensure that applying for car insurance is hassle free and as such should only take a few minutes to complete. To assist keeping this time to a minimum you should have the following information to hand:
- details of your car or the car you are hoping to purchase
- your residential address details, including your postcode
- debit/credit card or bank account details
- details of any claims or convictions
- details of any additional drivers
What does a provisional quotation provide? The purpose of a provisional quotation is to provide you with a quick quotation and as such it is based on some assumptions which are detailed under the terms of cover (these can be found under your provisional quotation). Legal & General do recommend that you complete your full details as your provisional quotation may alter to more accurately reflect your circumstances.
Can I obtain cover immediately? Yes, all you need to do is select 'buy' at the end of the detailed quotation; complete your payment details and cover can commence immediately.
How Can I Pay for My Legal & General Cover ?
You can pay the full premium online by debit or credit card. Alternatively, you can pay a deposit online and 9 monthly instalments by Direct Debit from your bank account. You will need to sign a Consumer Credit Act agreement form and a Direct Debit mandate, which we will send to you.
Do I need 'business use' to drive to work? No, under their insurance policy you can drive your vehicle back and forth to the same place of work using social, domestic and commuting purposes. Legal & General can increase your cover if you need to use your vehicle to visit any other sites of business during the working day; they will not however cover any goods or samples carried in connection with business use.
Do they insure motorcycles or vans? No, Legal & General only insures cars.
I do not have any no claim bonus: Can I still obtain a quotation? Yes you can and you may also be entitled to an introductory discount. If you have not had any accidents or made a claim in the last 3 years which resulted in you losing the no claims discount on your vehicle. Get in touch with Legal & General in order to establish whether you are eligible.
I want to take my car abroad: Will my insurance cover this? Legal & General will automatically provide cover when you visit any country, which is a member of The European Union, Norway, or Switzerland (including Liechtenstein). There is no limit on the number of trips you can make in any period of insurance but each trip must be for no more than 60 days. If you are travelling to any other country and you need the full cover shown in the schedule, call Legal & General to arrange it.
Will I lose my no claim bonus automatically if I make a claim? With the exception of glass damage or emergency medical treatment, all claims involving payment under the terms and conditions of your policy will result in the loss of your no claims bonus. Where they obtain a full recovery of the repair costs of your car from the Third Party involved or their insurers, your no claims bonus will be reinstated.
What else is included in my cover? An outline of the cover available is provided in their summary of cover table. A full policy document is also available which will provide full details of cover, terms, exceptions and conditions which Legal & General recommend you read before you complete your purchase.
When does cover begin? Cover begins from the date selected by you and displayed on your policy certificate. Cover is for 12 calendar months from the current date. If you decide you no longer require the cover you will need to write to the address on your certificate and request the cancellation of the policy.
You can now get a Car Insurance Online Quotation from their panel of insurers and proceed to buy your cover.
