Tesco launches motor insurance across the UK
From 8 March 2000, Tesco, the largest independent petrol retailer in the UK, will be offering car insurance in all of its 326 Tesco petrol stations and 633 of its stores. Its motor policies will be advertised on petrol pumps and at supermarket checkouts.
Paul Baxter comments: "We piloted the product in 50 petrol stations and stores last year and the success of this project convinced us that we should enter the market on a national basis. We are aiming to consistently offer one of the three cheapest quotes in the mainstream market and expect to be a top five direct insurer within three years."
Consumers can obtain information about Tesco Motor Insurance from Tesco stores and petrol stations. They can also call direct on 0845 300 4400 for a free quote. Tesco will hold a quote for three months as long as the details do not alter.
